Dodgers Snag The Competition

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

This off season is starting off good for the Dodgers organization.

The Los Angeles Dodgers have acquired outfielder Mookie Betts and pitcher David Price from the Boston Red Soxs.

In exchange for Betts and Price, Alex Verdugo was traded to Boston.  Both Betts and Price played for the Red Soxs in 2018.  The year that they defeated the Dodgers in the World Series.

Betts is a superstar.  He was named 2018 American League MVP.  Betts had a batting average of .346, a 1.087 OPS (On Base Slugging) percentage and 32 homeruns that season.  Last season, he hit .295, had 29 homeruns, and a .915 OPS.

Due to injuries, David Price hasn’t done so good as a pitcher.  He had an average ERA (Earned Run Average) of 3.84 in his four seasons with the Red Soxs.

Now that he’s transitioning to the National League, there aren’t any designated hitters.  Maybe this can help boost his performance.

Several Dodger fans have expressed their excitement of the newest players.

Roberta Curry is ecstatic.  She believes that Dodgers President of Baseball Operations Andrew Friedman did a great job in signing them.  Michael Pacheco says that Mookie is a top 3 player and that Price should be able to bounce back in the National League.

The regular season is about to start. Let’s see what these guys can bring to the Dodgers field.

Cheating Scandal Erupts and Punishments Are Given

The Houston Astros got caught red handed.

In November 2019, news broke out the Astros cheated during the 2017 World Series.  The reports stated that the Astros electronically stole signs during the championship series.

Mike Fiers, current Oakland A’s pitchers, spent 3 seasons with the Astros, was the one who recorded that his former team had a scheme during the 2017 season.

The Astros used a camera and positioned it to center field so they could steal signs.  A representative from the team would watch the game in private and give any signals they have by banging on a trash bin.  They also would supposedly use electronic devices and place them in their shirts.

MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred talked about what he found and decided to punish the Astros.  The team was fined 5 million dollars and lost their first–round draft picks in 2020 and 2021.  The Astros general manager and manager were fired by the team’s owner.  The team also electronic devices to convert signs to a player on second base so they are able to pass it on to the hitter at homeplate.

The Houston Astros may be the latest team to be caught. This doesn’t mean they’ll be the last.

New stadium renovations are in store for the Los Angele Dodgers organization.

News broke out last year that the 2020 All Star Game is going to be held at Dodgers Stadium.  This will be the first time it will be in Los Angeles since 1980.  The renovations are worth over $100 million.

The construction taking place at the stadium will include a plaza located in between the left and right pavilions.  New bridges and elevators will be added to the stadium by both pavilions as well.

The unveiling of the renovations will be revealed on Dodgers Opening Day (March 26).  Any last minute touches will be done by April.  The accessibility at the stadium will be growing this coming season.

The plaza in center field will have a play area for children, live music and vendors selling food and drinks.

There will also be a statue moved by the entrance of left field pavilion. The bronze statue of Jackie Robinson.  The seating capacity of 56,000 fans will stay the same. Fans are excited to see what’s coming next.

Looks like baseball fans will have to wait longer for the season to begin.

In order to keep the public from the contracting the coronavirus, the MLB has canceled the remaining Spring Training games.  It also seems that Opening Day week is going to be pushed back as well.

A lot of Dodger fans have been expressing their feelings about the situation on Twitter.  They are now realizing why it’s a necessity.

There’s no definitive answer if the season will begin in the next two weeks.  Not only is the MLB season suspending the season, the NBA, NHL and MLS have done the same thing.
